What is the Difference between residential and automotive film?
The main difference is the adhesive. Automotive window tinting has a cheap pressure sensitive adhesive ( sticky to touch like sticky tape) this is a cheaper alternative and will distort over time. There are companies trying to install this cheaper car film type onto housing and commercial as it ads to their profits. If you are having window tinting on your home then go with the quality dry adhesive you will be happy in the long run.
The dry adhesive is actually a thinner layer of adhesive than the PRESSURE SENSITIVE adhesive and it will not bubble or melt over time. Dry adhesives last much longer than pressure sensitive and keep a clear distortion-free view over time. We have been using Solar films with dry adhesives for many years and we have not had a single warranty claim in all that time due to film fault.
Our residential window tinting is not only warranted by us but an UNDERLYING MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY, which does not apply to many other cheap imitations. Our Solar film contains a water activated dry adhesive which is specially designed for flat glass. Not the cheaper pressure sensitive adhesive designed for automotive the industry! (THIS SHOULD BE BY FAR THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION WHEN GETTING YOUR NEW WINDOW TINT). Dry adhesive is much more stable and is designed to stand the test of time unlike the cheaper alternative.
